i would walk 500 miles...
Back in the day when VHS was still common and I was still anticipating my first kiss, I used to spend my nights watching Benny and Joon. I was so in love with the movie. I was fascinated (still am) with Quinn (played by Johnny Depp). It was the first time I fell for a fictional character, fell for the figment of someone else's imagination. There was something about Quinn's spirit and soul, his immunity to his own inhibitions, his imagination, and well his style of course. I had no idea what it meant to be whimsical before him. He had me as soon as I pressed that play button.
He had me then and he still has me now. I hadn't seen the movie in so long since I no longer had access to a VHS player, so I ordered the DVD online. It arrived a few days ago, and already I've seen it several times. And thus, the resurrection of my obsession. The movie inspired today's outfit, and the photo shoot. Oh and another reason the movie is great...The Proclaimers' song I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles). No surprise there, classic movie equals classic song. Check out the preview and the music video if you're curious:

you talk like a noose and only confuse my perplexity
Just listen to me I won't pretend to
Understand the movement of the wind
Or the waves out in the ocean or how
Understand the movement of the wind
Or the waves out in the ocean or how
Like the hours I change softly slowly
Plainly blindly oh me oh my!

soy el perro a tus pies que te muerde la costilla
(This was Saturday's outfit...better late than never.)
I first heard the song I'm about to post on a road trip with my sister Andrea. Had she not heard this song a couple years back, Devendra Banhart would have been as unfamiliar to me as baseball teams or world geography. You see, had Andrea not accidentally stumbled across this song a couple years back and then downloaded his album onto the Scientist (my lap buddy), then I wouldn't have accidentally come across his music as I shuffled through my i-tunes selection a couple years later. It certainly took awhile before I crossed paths with Devendra, but I'm ever grateful I did. It was fate.
I digress. I'm not sure if I believe in fate, but sometimes things are just too crazy or too coincidental to be regarded as anything less than the work of some omnipresent force. Maybe it's just the work of the man on the moon?
Now back to Devendra....There's something about his music, his lyrics, his voice. No matter my mood, I can always rely on Devendra to compliment it. Some of his lyrics are odd, but it's their obscurity that keeps me playing the songs over and over and over again. They're as unique as how I feel right now. I feel a lot of something and nothing right now. I am certain of only one thing at this moment, and that is...that I absolutely love this song:

I do not care for the winter sun
This was my Christmas day outfit. I was quite happy with it. The holiday season left me exhausted so that's it for this post. I'm going to leave you with a song I consider an oldie only cause it's been awhile since I heard it. I've been listening to Tegan and Sara again, I missed them. Anyhow, enjoy:

they're red hot
Today I purchased a camera from a boy wearing a blue polo and kakis. It was love at first trial. I named the camera after one of my favorite Devendra Banhart songs: Cristobal. I was really saving the name for my first born boy; but since I am no where near conceiving said baby boy, I decided to skip the wait and bestow the name on the next best thing: my new camera.
Now, I was initially going to post the video for the song Cristobal, but as I was uploading the photos my ears heard a more fitting mate to my photos: Robert Johnson's song They're Red Hot. It might very well have been my red shoes that convinced me to go in that direction or maybe it's the song's silliness that did it for me. Perhaps...perhaps it was the random video:

así que muévete pa' aquí amor
I chose the wrong holiday season to start a blog. I wore this last week and I'm just now posting the look. I have to get better at setting time aside to photograph my looks and submit posts.
With my Devendra Banhart phase comes a bit of a bohemian phase as well. His music is so fluid and free, and so I wake up in the mornings wanting to feel and look that way. Listen for yourself:
